MLB Mid-Season Review
By Joseph Yonga
We are now almost 50 games into the 162 game season. Our local teams are to pretty well. Still with that said, each team can jump a few places in the standings. The Mets currently are ½ game behind first place Washington Nationals led by Bryce Harper. Anyways the Mets are 26-18 which is good but they can be better. If they had not lost 7 games in a row they could first place in the NL East. Yoenis Cespedes is having a great year. His average is .303, Cespedes has 15 Home Runs, and 36 RBIs. He is leader for the Mets, they have an opportunity to be first because they have a game against the Nationals.
The Yankees are 21-22, the are 5 ½ games behind the O’s in the AL East. They have a struggling Toronto Blue Jays. Carlos Beltran has 9 Home Runs and 27 RBIs. Starlin Castro leads the team in batting average with .276. The Yankees started out a little bad but are catching up. With a recent stretch of good games They can reach the playoffs.
Surprising news is how both Chicago teams are exceptionally well. Also the Reds and Braves are so bad. I mean they are each so bad, the Braves are okay on the road. I can only wonder what will happen to the rest of the league. Maybe the Cubs will go on a five game losing streak. Maybe the Braves can win fifteen games in a row.

Warriors Lose at Home for Only 2nd Time
By Joseph Yonga
By The Western Conference has the Golden State Warriors up against the Oklahoma City Thunder. The Warriors beat the Thunder all three times this year. One game went into OT and the other two were ended in regulation. With the Thunder winning Game One with an unfair call. With limited time left, Russell Westbrook traveled but there was no call. You can see everyone on the court on the Warriors was calling travel but the referees did not call it. With the rest of the series coming I feel the Warriors will take at least the next two. In my opinion, the Warriors will win the series in 6 games (4-2).

Muggles Play Quidditch
By Marko Wojcickyj
How fun would it be if you can play Quidditch just like in the Harry Potter movies and flying through the air. Quidditch has been played worldwide in high schools and in colleges. But now you can actually play quidditch flying through the air on broomsticks for only 30 dollars. A video has also been released of professional skydivers that dressed up if spiffy outfits and fly through the air with a ball and throw it through a hoop. The video has had over a million views and the numbers are still growing.

NBA Playoffs in Full Swing
By Joseph Yonga
In the second round of the NBA Playoffs there have been almost no surprises except the Warriors crushing the Rockets without Curry. In the second round of the Eastern Conference the (1) Cavaliers vs (4) Hawks with the Cavs up 1-0 now. The (2) Raptors vs (3) Heat which Game 1 is being played tonight. I feel the (3) Heat and the (1) Cavaliers will meet in the Eastern Conference Finals. The Cavs will end up win.
In the Western Conference, the (1) Warriors are up against the (5) Trail Blazers and the Warriors are up 1-0 and Game 2 is today. The other series is the (2) Spurs vs (3) Thunder which is tied 1-1 with the Spurs traveling to Oklahoma City for Game 3. I feel the the (1) Warriors will go up against the (2) Spurs and win in 6 games.

Stephen Curry, Out for Two Weeks!
By Joseph Yonga
In Game 1, Stephen Curry got injured after scoring 24 points. He sat out for Game 2 and Game 3. When he came back in Game 4 he got a worse injury. He suffered a MCL Sprain and he is out two weeks. This sets up a good chance for the Thunder, Spurs, and Trail Blazers. The Warriors and fans must be scared and Klay Thompson and Draymond Green must step up and score. More likely Shaun Livingston will take his position. Livingston is not a huge three-point shooter only attempting 12 and making 2. He only averages 6.3 points a game. So they might give some wins which gives up resting time. They are up 3-1 against the Rockets but they might give up some wins.

THE SACRAMENTO KINGS’ NEW LOGO: The New Era of Pride
By Deepak Sathish
“The new era of pride.” This is the tagline that went with the new logo. The Kings decided to look back to the past to redefine their future. The logo sports a new, modern look, and also has a clean font. The secondary lion logo was to pay tribute to the Kings’ fans. Kings merchandise with the new logos is available. “New Logo, New Gear” the page greets you as you open the store. This is a bold move on part of the Kings, as they haven’t even unveiled their new jerseys yet. The new jerseys will be interesting to see, and there will probably be speculation until they are unveiled. In my opinion, the new logos are better, and will help usher in a new era of Kings basketball, and this era might (probably not) be better than the previous era.

NBA Playoffs Preview
By Joseph Yonga
The NBA Playoffs have just begun. With the playoffs underway every game has high stakes. With the Warriors leading the charge in the West, and the Cavaliers in the East. Most predictions have them winning and these teams meet in the NBA Finals. The matchups are as follows. East: 1 Cavaliers vs 8 Pistons, 4 Hawks vs 5 Celtics, 2 Raptors vs 7 Pacers, 3 Heat vs 6 Hornets. I feel these teams are too easy for the Cavaliers but they’ll meet the Heat in the Eastern Conference Finals and win the series 4-2. In the West the matchups are: 1 Warriors vs 8 Rockets, 4 Clippers vs 5 Trail Blazers, 2 Spurs vs 7 Grizzlies, 3 Thunder vs 6 Mavericks. The Warriors will meet the Spurs in the Western Conference Finals and the Warriors will win in 7 games, 4-3. In the Finals the Cavaliers will get a rematch, now with all three of their superstars. I feel they are not ready for the Warriors. The Warriors are fast, smart, and they play as a team. The Cavaliers only maybe use around 3 players on offense unless someone else is open. So the Warriors win back-to-back championships in 6 games, 4-2.

Big Game Tonight: Will the Warriors go 73-9?
The Golden State Warriors have only 1 game left. Against the Memphis Grizzlies. Can they pull it off? I think so. They have gone 3-0 against the Grizzlies this season. They averaged 106.3 points in each of those wins. The Grizzlies only averaged 84 in all of those losses. With Stephen Curry playing as well as he is, I think the Warriors will win, in a blowout. The record set years ago by MJ and the Bulls will finally be defeated.
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar turns 69 years old so I made a slideshow on his 20 year career. Hope you enjoy!!!!!
Will The Record Be Broken
By Joseph Yonga
In 1996, the Chicago Bulls won 87.8% of the games or 72 out of 82. Yes that is right, they lost only ten games. That means the shortest win streak possible had to be 7 games in a row. That team had Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen, Dennis Rodman, and 3-point shooter Steve Kerr. They eventually went on to win the NBA Finals and defeated the Seattle Supersonics.
Fast forward to now. You have the Golden State Warriors currently at 68-7. Now they are 4 ins away from tying and 5 from beating. With only seven games left they need to win at least 5 games. It will be hard because they have the Spurs twice and the Grizzlies twice. Those are two quality teams in the Western Conference. Maybe Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green under Steve Kerr’s coaching. Yes, Steve Kerr is the coach for the team. Now we can only see what will happen.

NCAA Final Four 2016
Final Four
By: Joseph Yonga
Lately the NCAA March Madness Tournament has been going on. We are now very deep and there are only four teams left. One is Villanova. To get here they had to beat #15 North Carolina Asheville, #7 Iowa, #3 Miami (FL), and #1 Kansas in the South bracket. When they beat Kansas I was so surprised. Most people thought Kansas would go to the Final Four and win the tournament. The played in the Big East Conference with teams as Georgetown, Seton Hall, Providence, Butler, and Xavier as the other teams that made it to the tourney. The Villanova Wildcats won the regular season title but lost to Seton Hall in the conference final. Their best player is Senior Ryan Arcidiacono who can score and make plays. Now we can only wait until what happens next.
Now their opponent is Oklahoma. Oklahoma beat #15 CSU Bakersfield, #10 VCU, #3 Texas A&M, and #1 Oregon in the West bracket. They played in a competitive Big 12 conference with the likes of Kansas, Baylor, Texas, Iowa State, Texas Tech, and West Virginia. The Sooners lost in the semifinal to West Virginia. I knew they would get here as they have been following Senior Buddy Hield. He is a player who can pass and score.
On the other side of the bracket you got North Carolina (UNC). They beat #16 FGCU (Florida Gulf Coast), #9 Providence, #5 Indiana, and #6 Notre Dame. In the East bracket. All their games have been blowouts. The were in the ACC with fellow Final Four member Syracuse, with Virginia, Duke, Miami (FL), Notre Dame, and Pitt. They are lead by Senior Marcus Paige. They were able to capture their conference championship and are for a greater championship.
Finally all tournaments have to have an underdog. This year it is Syracuse. Their opponents were #7 Dayton, #15 Middle Tennessee,
#11 Gonzaga, and #1 Virginia. In the Midwest tournament. Syracuse has had a pretty easy schedule until Virginia. That surprised me because I thought Syracuse would get blown out, but they managed to come from behind and win. They are as well in the ACC like their next opponent North Carolina. This time I think they will lose to a tough opponent but they tried hard and will get some good recruits.

Top Three Mistakes in NBA History
By Joseph Yonga
3. In the 2003 NBA Draft, the Pistons selected Darko Miličić. The problem was he was picked over Carmelo Anthony, Dwayne Wade, and Chris Bosh. Each have been All-Stars. Bosh and Wade each won NBA Championships. Carmelo has become an extremely good player, playing for the Knicks and Nuggets. It is also considered the best draft classes.
2. Everyone knows Kobe Bryant. He was actually not drafted by the Lakers, by the Hornets. They traded him for some guy named Vlade Divac. There has been many ideas that if they kept them they would have been a great team for a long time. The Lakers could also get by with Shaq, but Shaq might not go to LA. If he did he might not have to leave because of the complications with Kobe.
1. In the 1984 NBA Draft, the Trail Blazers missed on MJ. The BEST player of all time. The biggest mistake of all time. The Trail Blazers could have Michael Jordan. He won the most championships of all time. Next is Kobe but he is retiring. That move could change the face of the NBA for a long time.

Was Cutting Joe Johnson a Mistake for the Nets?
By Joseph Yonga
Recently the Brooklyn Nets released former all-star Joe Johnson. Soon after getting released he signed with the Miami Heat. The Heat use him as the 6th man. Now the Nets without an extremely good player will be even worse than before. This will give players like Bojan Bogdanovic and Markel Brown a bigger chance. Also Sergey Karasev could now actually play now. This might be for the best because they do not have their 2016 first round draft pick . So I would get my younger players more playing time so they could become a franchise player. The Nets will not be good for the couple of years like the Sixers. I am a loyal fan so I will stay a Nets fan and not go to the struggling Knicks. That is another story but the Nets in some time will back to 2001-2002 New Jersey Nets with Kidd and Martin. We would really need to make some good trades in the offseason.

The Knicks Fall Short at Trade Deadline
By Joshua Ninan
Did the Knicks have a chance with minutes left at the trade deadline to fill the gap? Was there hope Jose Calderon would be gone when it was all over?
The trade deadline is over, some teams got what they wanted, Cavs got Channing Frye, Warriors got Anderson Varejao, Jeff Green was sent to the Clippers, but what about the Knicks? Phil Jackson said we would trade a player and receive someone good but what happened? We got no one and they didn’t trade anyone. Was Jose Calderon going to be gone when it was over? I knew it the answer was no because he’s really bad and no one would give up a good player for junk.
The Hawks were smart to keep Jeff Teague, and they also have a new addition to their roster, which is Kirk Hinrich. The Knicks had no chance of getting other allstars on the team anyways. Knicks are good but they didn’t meet their expectation this season they promised a lot but it never came true they ended up on the wrong path leading to disappointing season. At least if we got a good point guard we would get somewhere but we didn’t. The Knicks are not the best but not the worst. If I was coach I would demand a lot from Kristaps Porzingis and Carmelo Anthony they are leading the team not any other player. Games are coming and going if we don’t put our act together it’s over!!!

Kristaps Porzinigis: The Future of the NBA
By Joshua Ninan
With the 4th draft pick the knicks get….. Kristaps Porzingis is already a superstar. He made it clear that he is right now the top of the Knicks. He stands at 7’3 and every night he puts on a show at MSG!!!!!! Derek Fisher said that he is a great player to be with on the court and off the court he’s funny and is serious!!!! If he keeps going like this he might even win rookie of the year. Also his 3 point shooting beyond the arc is so sick!!! It’s like a lay up or free throw for him, what I’m trying to say is that it’s a piece of cake!!! All the things I just said finishes deal which means the Dad and his son was wrong. Haven’t you heard the saying don’t judge the book by it’s cover well that’s what the dad and son did to Kristaps Porzingis. That’s not right you should give every player a try that enters the draft, it’s their rookie year. Do you think Steph Curry would be a star if they didn’t give him a chance? Probably not but the Warriors took the risk and look where they are now, champions, has great players surrounding him. So I think the dad and son were wrong about judging Kristaps. See the kid is probably regretting the emotional breakdown he had!!!!!!

Super Bowl 50 Halftime Show: Past, Present, and Future
By: Destiny Marrero
This Super Bowl’s Halftime show was amazing Beyonce, Bruno Mars and Coldplay were great. Beyonce sang her newest song called “Formation”. Bruno sang “Uptown Funk” and Coldplay sang a couple songs. The three of them were amazingly dressed and they all sang very nicely. I think a lot of people enjoyed the part where they reflected on the past 50 Super Bowls.

Super Bowl 50!
By Deepak Sathish
THE SUPER BOWL!!!! The best game of the year. The two teams that made it here are either super-talented, or just plain super-lucky. This game is going to be crazy, or a blowout. Personally, I want to see an amazing close nail-biter. We all hopefully do.
Denver Broncos (AFC Champion) at Carolina Panthers (NFC Champion)
The Broncos are the number 1 defense, but the Panthers are number 11 in offense. The Panthers need to get their number 2 ranked rushing offense going if they want to beat the best defense. The Broncos are better passing wise, and this could be intense. But there is a reason the Panthers went 15-1. Their 6th ranked defense is going to give Peyton Manning and co. (who are wearing white uniforms, by the way) a hard time. In the end, Cam Newton will come out on top.
VICTOR: Carolina Panthers
Make sure to tune in! This game will be crazy! It’s on CBS at 6:30 PM on Sunday,February 7th. Also, remember to not miss a moment. Literally. The commercials are crazy and weird. Just like the game itself, ironically enough. Let’s see if I can get this game right. I have a 50% chance of getting it right.

Is He the Best or What?
By Joseph Yonga
Last year one certain NBA player named Stephen Curry. He was good before but now he is amazing. Best player in the NBA and is still getting better. He is better than LeBron and KD. He can shoot, pass, dribble, and play perimeter defense. Curry has gotten more popular with his shoe deal with Under Armour. His career started in 2009 being drafted by the Warriors. He went to Davidson college graduating after his senior year. Before the Curry ¨movement¨ he broke a record with the fastest time to get 100 3-pointers (don't ask me how long) in 2013-2014. He also has a partner called Klay Thompson who he shares the spotlight with Stephen Curry. Klay is a beast from behind the arch. So when Curry is in trouble he passes to Klay and he will make the 3. So the Warriors backcourt (or guards however you want to call it) are popping and stopping.

So the Warriors backcourt (or guards however you want to call it) are popping and stopping.
NFL Conference Championship Preview
By Deepak Sathish
So, here we are. The Conference Championship games. The last games before the SUPER BOWL! Let’s see who will be going to San Francisco and who will be eating chips and dip.
Arizona Cardinals (2nd Seed) at Carolina Panthers (1st Seed)
The Cardinals seem to be the underdogs. But in reality, they are in it as much as anyone. They are better in most stats. The Panthers gave up a 31-0 lead to the Seahawks last week, and they have had trouble holding on to their huge 1st half leads throughout the season.
VICTOR:Arizona Cardinals
New England Patriots (2nd Seed) at Denver Broncos (1st Seed)
The Broncos have been heavily carried by their defense. The Patriots have survived through weeks of injuries and now they have Julian Edelman and Rob Gronkowski back healthy. Of course, it always comes down to Brady vs Manning. I think that it comes down to if Brady’s offense can beat the Broncos’ defense. I think that Brady and co. can pull it off and go to a second straight Super Bowl.
VICTOR:New England Patriots (Barely)
This week will be intense. Make sure to tune in to see who wins. I have to admit, I probably will never get every game right.
Sports Opinion: Sorry St. Louis, the NFL is back in LA
By Nick Lupo
In recent NFL news, the St.Louis Rams are going back to Los Angeles. The St.Louis Rams, whom we have all grown up with, have abandoned the midwest to move to bright and sunny Inglewood, California. People in St.Louis are furious saying the NFL has betrayed the city and it’s a shame because such a great franchise should stay in this great city. However, this might have been the smartest move for both the Rams and the NFL.
First, let me break down the city of St.Louis and it’s relationship with the Rams. In 21 years in St. Louis the Rams have won a Super Bowl and been to the playoffs a handful of times in the early 2000’s with Kurt Warner as their quarterback. However, in the last 10 years they have been pretty terrible. Their last playoff appearance was in 2004 and after that St.Louis seemingly started to not to care about the Rams. Fans started to flee to other St. Louis teams like the Cardinals who always seem to be in the World Series and the Blues who have been getting closer to the Stanley Cup every year. The sad thing is that the Rams were not as bad as they were in the past with their underrated defense and offense powered by Todd Gurley and Tavon Austin.
The people in St.Louis deserve this in a way because this year's attendance at home games was really poor. So the NFL stepped in and asked the Rams owner if they's like to relocate to L.A., and of course they were going to say yes because this team gets to play in the second largest sports market in the U.S. behind New York. This means more money for the NFL, owners, GM's, coaches, and players.
The people in St.Louis betrayed the team for not going out and supporting them. So why are the people complaining? They did not care last year or the years before, but now it’s a tragedy that the Rams left. It’s not, because you were the cause and if you know common sense you know every cause has an effect. So people of St. Louis, maybe if you helped out your NFL team they would have not left, so in the end St.Louis screwed up and now they have lost the Rams.

NFL Divisional Round: Another Crazy Week Ahead?
By Deepak Sathish
Last week, we saw the Wild Card round. From the Vikings BARELY losing, to the Bengals choking, it was CRAZY! This time around, let’s see how crazy this round is.
Pittsburgh Steelers (6th Seed) at Denver Broncos (1st Seed)
The Steelers barely edged the Bengals and the Broncos are starting Peyton Manning. The Broncos have the best defense, so I think I know who’ll win.
VICTOR:Denver Broncos
Kansas City Chiefs (5th Seed) at New England Patriots (2nd Seed)
It’s been a rough season for Tom Brady and co. Suffering injury after injury, the question is, does this roster have enough talent left to make a Super Bowl run? Meanwhile, the Chiefs have their own injury issues. Jeremy Maclin is very unlikely to play, and this team has really no talent in the receiving department besides him and TE Travis Kelce. This will be close, but the defending champs will come out on top.
VICTOR:New England Patriots
Seattle Seahawks (6th Seed) at Carolina Panthers (1st Seed)
Russell Wilson vs. Cam Newton! The QB battle of the season! Wilson is playing the best football of his career, while Newton is leading a nearly unbeaten team. The Seahawks are underdogs, and I still think they have a chance. As remote as it SEEMS, the chances are better than you think.
VICTOR:Seattle Seahawks
Green Bay Packers (5th Seed) at Arizona Cardinals (2nd Seed)
The Packers are in trouble. The last time the two teams faced off, the Packers got stomped 38-8. The only chance I give the Packers is if their offense stays hot from last week, but I highly doubt it. The Cardinals will stomp them again.
VICTOR:Arizona Cardinals
Remember to tune in to the games to find out yourself! Enjoy the games, and remember to see how crazy the playoffs are for yourself. Let’s see if I can get everyone right. Probably not.

So, here we are, at the NFL Playoffs. This could get interesting.
AFC WILD CARD GAMES:
KANSAS CITY CHIEFS(11-5) AT HOUSTON TEXANS(9-7)
The Chiefs went crazy late in the season, and the Texans got WAYYYY too lucky. Let’s be honest, the Chiefs are better.
VICTOR:Kansas City Chiefs
PITTSBURGH STEELERS(10-6) AT CINCINNATI BENGALS(12-4)
The Steelers were dealing with injuries early on,and the Bengals were at one point among the unbeaten. The Steelers are better on offense, and much better in fact. So, I think the Bengals will go home early again.
VICTOR:Pittsburgh Steelers
NFC WILD CARD GAMES:
SEATTLE SEAHAWKS (10-6) AT MINNESOTA VIKINGS (11-5)
This is the easiest pick ever. The Seahawks are better in most categories. It will be close though. An interesting thing to mention is the high temp for the game is 0 degrees Fahrenheit, so maybe this could be Ice Bowl 2.0?
VICTOR:Seattle Seahawks
GREEN BAY PACKERS(10-6) AT WASHINGTON REDSKINS(9-7)
This game could be slightly more interesting than everyone expects. The Packers have been flopping and the Redskins barely edged the NFC East. Considering the fact that the Packers lost the NFC North, they still are better.
VICTOR:Green Bay Packers
In general, the Wild Card games will be quite interesting. Let’s see if I predicted the Wild Card round right. Knowing how crazy the NFL is, I probably got at least one wrong. Remember to tune in to the games, and see for yourself!

The Golden State Warrior: The Next Great Dynasty or One Hit Wonder
By Deepak Sathish
Lakers. Bulls. Celtics. Heat. Spurs. So many great dynasties, and soon there might another team added to that list. Warriors. Now, all great teams have a star that generally carries the team, but the Warriors are different. They are one of the most well-rounded teams in the league’s history, and we’re only 22 games in. Stephen Curry is still the team leader (32.3 points a game,5.8 assists per game, 2.2 steals a game, 47.2% from the three point line, 91.2% from the free throw line.)while Draymond Green (7.2 assists a game, 8.5 rebounds a game, 1.4 blocks a game), Harrison Barnes (13.4 points a games), and Andrew Bogut(1.7 blocks a game, 67.7% field goal percent) lock down the front court. One issue is that Klay Thompson has regressed from last year. Everything has dropped from last year, from points (21.7 ppg to 17.2 ppg) to assists (2.9 apg to 2.3 apg) to 3-point percentage (43.6% to 42.0%). Andre Iguodala isn’t playing the best either (8 ppg),but if playoff history repeats itself, Iggy should pick up the pace during the playoffs.
Now, for the Warriors’ most dominant competition: the Cavaliers. LeBron, Kyrie, Kevin Love. These guys lead the Eastern Conference at 13-7, which proves how BAD the Eastern Conference is. The Hawks are right at their tale at 12-7. The Heat have come back to haunt LeBron at 12-7 as well. The Bulls are surprisingly only 11-7, but still in the competition. Now, for the Warriors’ inter-conference rivals:the Spurs. The Spurs are 18-4, and still a dominant force. Behind them is the Thunder(my personal favorite team) are 12-8, and Russell Westbrook is ON FIRE(27.1 ppg), and if Kevin Durant can stay healthy, the Warriors should be worrying.
Now for the conclusion: the Warriors will win the finals again. Curry will stay hot, and Klay will pick up the pace. Now, they won’t go 82-0, but they will be close. I say around 77-5. They will beat the Cavaliers in six games. Next year though, if the Warriors can utilize the cap space hike properly, this team can become the greatest dynasty of all time.
As of today, the Warriors were beaten by the Milwaukee Bucks. Well, nothing lasts forever.
The Second Annual College Football Playoff
By Nick Lupo
In case you haven't heard the college football playoffs are back and with the final four teams being announced we shall see if the committee got it right and who I think will win it all this year. The college football playoffs consists of four teams that are ranked 1-4 in a bracket style mini tournament for the college football championship. the number one team in the country will play number four and number two will play number 3. In this case Clemson will play oklahoma and Alabama will play Michigan State. The winners of those two games will duke it out for the title, Now we got that out of the way let's move on to if the college football committee got it right.
Now how this committee works is sorta like a jury in a courtroom. A group of people debate who should be in the top four or not. Last year there was a little controversy with the rankings as many argued that Baylor should have been in the top four but they were left out and sat at number five. But this year the committee got it right in my mind if you look at the schedule for these teams were most of these games were not cake walks for these schools so all of their victories were hard fought and three of the top four teams suffered a loss, So record wise the committee got it right. But hold on I mentioned three of the four teams had all lost one game but Clemson ran the table going undefeated but not without some controversy. You see in Clemson's last game they played an uprising North Carolina Tar Heels team. With a minute and forty five seconds left NC kicked an onside kick which they recovered. However a horrible call was made as the refs stated that one Tarheel was offsides but upon further the player was nowhere near offsides. This caused for Clemson to get the ball automatically and win the game. But it was not the Tiger's fault because they did not make the call and they still won the game not in a clean way but a win's a win so they still deserve to be number one for being the only undefeated team in the playoff.
Ok now on to who I think is going to win it all. Many believe Alabama has the best shot to win the title based off their heisman candidate running back Derrick Henry and how they have the experience of being in the playoff last year. But I don’t think they have a shot here’s why because if you watch Alabama play they can’t throw the football. If you get the Crimson Tide to third down and long I don’t think they will overcome Michigan State's defense. Plus the Spartans have a first round NFL draft pick in Connor Cook and with him and MSU’s high power offense I have the Spartans winning 27-17. Now onto Clemson and Oklahoma and I think the Sooners will win this one in upset fashion. Now I don’t think a lot of people have Oklahoma winning this game but they have a huge shot here. The reasons are their heisman candidate quarterback Baker Mayfield and their outstanding wide receivers and run game. If the Sooners defense plays outstanding especially in the secondary they can beat a clemson team who don’t forget struggled with North Carolina and won on a controversial call. So if Oklahoma’s defense plays great and it’s offense does what it has done for the whole season I got the Sooners winning 28-21.
Now on to the final between Oklahoma and MSU. Offensively this game is so evenly matched it’s not even funny so I think defense will be the key to win this game, and for that reason I have the Spartans winning the title because I think MSU has a better defense than Oklahoma and I think Connor Cook is a tad bit better than Baker Mayfield but I can see Oklahoma win the title but I think the Spartans defense will prevail. So I have the Michigan State Spartans winning the second annual college football playoffs by a score of 24-20. Solely on their defense backing up Connor Cook with his brillants on the football field and I think MSU is a more disciplined team. So people get ready for new year’s eve for what should be a better tournament than last year and better games to be played and I think MSU will walk away with the title but this is just an opinion. So with that being said that is all for today and are you in for these college football playoffs?

Kobe Bryant Retires: The End of an Era
By Nick Lupo
Over the last couple of days the news has been broken that one of the greatest players to ever hold a basketball will retire after this season, And that man's name is none other than Kobe Bryant. The Black Mamba was a five time NBA champion, has been selected for 17 all star games, league mvp, has the most points in Lakers history, two time olympic gold medalist, and is 3rd in all time scoring. So in this article I will be talking about the legacy that Kobe has left on the NBA.
Kobe in my mind will be one of the top ten players of all time not only stat wise but how he has captivated and earned the respect of fans, coaches, and players for the past 20 years. Also it’s funny how some people call him “Today’s Michael Jordan.” This is not some vague and egotistical remark this makes sense unlike “Is Lebron better than MJ.”. I think Kobe was the closest thing to the next Michael Jordan. One of the reasons is that their stats are pretty close I mean Kobe’s number three on the all time points list and MJ is fourth. Also MJ has Six rings and Kobe has five. Both of them are arguably the most famous players to put on their respected teams jersey.
But I want to stop comparing Kobe for being “Today’s MJ” Even Kobe has quoted this statement “I don't want to be the next Michael Jordan, I only want to be Kobe Bryant”. I want to talk a little bit about these debates about who’s the best of all time or who would you rather have between Kobe or MJ or MJ or Lebron. The final answer is really there is none. Here’s why people who say Lebron or even Kobe in this case have never seen Michael Jordan play a full season of basketball or followed him throughout his career and the people who say this are the younger generation like us because Jordan retired in 2003. So you were one or two back then and you haven't seen MJ play on a regular basis but you have seen Kobe play often so you assume that he’s better because you have witnessed him play. This is the same but vise versa for the people back in the 90s who have seen MJ play so there is not going to be a final answer of who is the best of all time because you're going to have an outstanding bias for whichever generation that player played in because you never saw the other one play.
Anyway to wrap this up after the end of this NBA season the basketball community and the sports world will lose and iconic figure. Not in only the way Kobe played the game but how hard he worked to be great and how he respected the game, And in the next five years his jersey is going in the Rafters of the Staples Center and no other Laker will ever wear the number 24. As the Mamba left a legacy for the game of basketball for twenty years and will be remembered as one of the all time greats. That is all for today.

New Football Helmets Focus on Safety |
Will He Play? |
By Joseph Yonga
Concussions and other brain injuries are a growing problem of football. With hard hits in football we need a solution fast. There are ongoing lawsuits over concussion issues in the NCAA, or college sports. Some colleges will be using new helmets. It is called the Riddell SpeedFlex helmet. University of Arkansas was the first to announce they were using the new helmets. The helmet reduces the impact to the athlete’s head. It is more comfortable to wear now. If someone is in potential danger while wearing the helmet it will send an alert to the coach to reduce concussions and other brain injuries. Now the only question left to ask is, will it work and lower concussion and other brain injuries? |
By Joseph Yonga
FC Barcelona’s most popular player has been injured for some time. He was injured against Las Palmas. His return is expected soon, especially with El Clasico coming up. It will be an amazing match between 1st place Barcelona up against 2nd place Real Madrid. These matches are always fun to watch. The website Mirror states, “He is recovering very well, doing everything to get to the game and to have him in the team changes a lot,” that is what Barcelona defender Adriano says. Messi is a key ingredient of the team but Neymar and Suarez have stepped up for them. They need Messi because Real Madrid is not easy. They have excellent players at every position. That is why Messi needs to be fit and prepare physically and mentally if Barcelona wants to win. Other information, is due to a poll on http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/lionel-messi-fit-el-clasico-6836261 77% of people who voted said Barcelona would win with Messi. Now we will have to wait and see. |
The New York Knicks- 2017 Champs?
By Nick Lupo
The New York Knicks have been one of the worst teams in the NBA in the past couple of years. Finishing below .500 the last three years and making it to the playoffs in one of those three years they ended up getting crushed by Lebron’s Heat losing the series 4 games to 1. Also, the Knicks have not won an NBA title since 1973 and since then the Knicks have not been relevant since the early 90s. But what if I told you the Knicks could possibly win the title next year. Now hold on hold on anyone who reads that statement are saying there’s no way in heck the Knicks are coming close to that title but they are actually closer than you think and here’s why.
Every professional sports team from the New York Rangers to F.C. Barcelona have something called a cap space which is the amount of money a team could spend in the offseason. For stuff like resigning players or getting players who are free agents. But for the Knicks they hit the jackpot why you ask? Well you see next year the NBA’s total cap space is tripling in value due to this massive television deal which will happen next year guess where I’m going with this? The reason the Knicks hit the jackpot is because the Knicks have the most cap space next year. Now if you take that amount and triple it you can sign anybody you want for a fraction of their total cap. Now here are a few players that are going to be free agents next year Kevin Durant, Lebron James, Dwight Howard, Al Horford, Pau Gasol, Dwyane Wade, Kobe Bryant, Rajon Rondo, Dirk Nowitzki, Mike Conley, and maybe Derrick Rose.
Now ask yourself this how many of those players have won an NBA championship, Been to an All Star game, and how many of them were named league MVP. Everyone I just named have at least one of these things to their name and they all are free agents next year which means this. The Knicks have the best shot at getting some of these guys because 1. Who would turn down the chance to play in MSG and you could become a star in one game 2. Who would turn down the team that is willing to give you the most amount of money possible and 3. Some of these guys are great or best friends with Carmelo Anthony which is huge Kobe, Carmelo, and Lebron all went to each others wedding as their best man and went on vacation together so Camelo could call these guys up and recruit them to come to the Knicks. Also teams like the Warriors or Cavs can’t get any of these players because they have to pay their guys who got them to the finals last year expect Lebron who has a player's option to bail out of his contract and become a free agent. My point is this the Knicks have a president that knows what he is doing, a coach that knows what he’s doing. If they do this right and pick up at least three of these big name players the Knicks could be a huge threat in the Weakened Eastern Conference. They could go very far in the playoffs and maybe just maybe hoist the title in the next couple of years. With their new big name free agents, Carmelo, the staff, and their new draft pick Kristaps Porzingis. Watch out NBA the Knicks are coming and coming fast that’s all for today.
Week 10: NFL Picks
Welcome to...NFL PICKS WEEK 1O! Where we pick who wins the NFL game. It’s self-explanatory. This is for the good of the public. For anyone from the underground better to the average Giants fan. Also, I will only pick NOTABLE matchups, because I tried doing every game for week 8, and it did not go well...Anyway, ON WITH THE PICKS!
Buffalo Bills (4-4) at New York Jets (5-3) (Thursday Night Football)(By Deepak Sathish)
Now,the Bills have won the last 3 meetings. But, still the Jets are better. The ONLY chance the Bills have is if their #2 ranked rushing game can get going. The Jets are 4th in defense, though. The Bills are 29th in passing, so Gang Green will get another W.
Deepak’s Pick: Jets
Joseph’s Pick: Jets
Carolina Panthers (8-0 [Surprisingly]) at Tennessee Titans (2-6) (By Deepak Sathish)
This game is not notable, but since it involves an undefeated team, I HAVE to pick it. This pick is kind of obvious. The Titans do have the 6th best defense in the league, versus the Panthers’ 12th ranked offense. The Titans have the 28th best offense (which basically means 4th worst). So I give this one to the Panthers. If the Titans want to win former Heisman Marcus Mariota will have play his absolute best. It will be close though.
Deepak’s Pick: Panthers,
Joseph’s Pick: Panthers
Minnesota Vikings (6-2 [Again, surprisingly]) at Oakland Raiders (4-4)(By Deepak Sathish)
This is probably my favorite pick this week. Simply for the fact that the Raiders have the 30th ranked defense, while the Vikings have the 30th ranked offense. The Vikings do have the 7th best defense, while the Raiders have the 8th best offense. I see the Vikings BARELY edging the Raiders in an intense battle.
Deepak’s Pick: Vikings
Joseph’s Pick: Raiders
New England Patriots (8-0) vs New York Giants (5-4)(By Joseph Yonga)
Here is a nice game. The Giants won a nail-biter against the Bucs. The Giants need to really play defense and work the pass game in order to win. The Giants have no run game while the Patriots have everything. LeGarrette Blount had an amazing game last week, as well as Tom Brady, Brandon LaFell, and their defense. The Giants are really going to have to play to their limit if they want to win. I think they have in them.
Deepak’s Pick: Patriots (Even though I hate them, as a Seahawks fan)
Joseph’s Pick: Giants
Arizona Cardinals (6-2) at Seattle Seahawks (4-4)
So it begins, the battle of the week! These 2 teams, in my opinion, are the only teams that can possibly win the NFC West. I see the Rams slipping out of contention later on, and the 49ers STINK. The number 3 defense vs. The number 2 defense. To be honest, the stats say the Cardinals will win, but who cares about stats! The Seahawks are on a 2-game winning streak, and are coming off a bye week of eating mama’s home cooking (Sorry,I had to). Anyway, then again, the Cardinals are also are on a 2-game winning streak AND a bye week with mama’s cooking! Then again, I still believe it will be close. Sadly, even as a Seahawks fan, I have to give this game to the Cardinals.Or do I? I see the Seahawks winning this game in a nail-biter.
Deepak’s Pick: Seahawks
Joseph’s Pick: Seahawks
Unfortunately, that’s all the time we have! Now,remember,we can not guarantee that these picks will be completely correct, and that the Seahawks RULE.Any final advice for our readers, Joseph?
Yes, be happy, watch football, and LOVE the Giants.
Well,I guess this is the end.See you next week!

2015-2016 NHL Preview
Can the Blueshirts bring the Cup back to MSG? Our sports writers say "Yes!"
Are The Devils poised for another year towards the bottom of the Eastern Conference.
|
By Nick Lupo
Hockey fans in our area had an exciting season last year. Two of the three local teams in the NHL made the playoffs last year, the Rangers and Islanders. The New Jersey Devils have failed to make the playoffs again. They have been one of the worst teams in the NHL for the last couple of years. The buzz in hockey is that the Devil franchise is trying to turn it around this year. They are trying to be just over .500. They do have a new coach, but with almost the same roster from last year and not changing their style of play, I am not expecting a great season. However, that’s the Devils franchise for you, a team who thinks they can make the playoffs without changing anything. In my opinion, that sounds almost as dumb as Kanye West running for president in 2020. From my perspective on the bench, I don’t think the Devils will be nowhere near the playoffs this year. On to the first playoff team, The New York Islanders, or whatever nickname they receive from another team or fan. I just can’t keep up with all of them. The Landers made it just to the first round of the playoffs last year, but they choked bad giving up a three game lead over the Washington Capitals. You really can’t blame them, they just did not have enough experience going into to those important late games in the series. It’s sort of like a kid who played baseball for his whole life and then stops for 3 or 4 years, then when he comes back, he is just rusty and awful. Watching some of the pre season buzz, the Isles look better this year, even making NHL history by drafting the first ever Asian to be in the NHL. I predict a longer playoff run for the team from Long Island and I think things are looking good. I predict a good season for the blue and orange. However, if your talking about their new black jerseys, all I can say is, “what the heck were they thinking”? Absolutely ridiculous! If the season was based on that, they would surely be the biggest losers. Lastly, you guessed it, The New York Rangers. Now, I am not being bias here because I am a huge Rangers fan, but in my gut, I feel that they are the ones to watch for winning the Stanley Cup this year. You may ask me why I feel that way, well let's start off with that they have the most determined goalie in the whole league. One word people, HENRY!!! They also have one of the most solid defenses in the NHL, and quite an impressive new offense. The Devils should take a look across the river and take some tips of who did it right. The Rangers team has suffered for 22 years without a cup, and in the past 5 years they have made it past the second round of the playoffs. Breaks my heart people! They have just fallen short each year, but it’s only a matter of time befor Henrik Lundqvist and the rest of the Rangers hoist, Lord Stanley’s cup. |
MLB Postseason 2015: Champions and Controversies
By Nick Lupo
There’s a reason I waited this long to write this piece of work. It’s quite simple. In baseball, you kind to have to be patient for something exciting to happen, because we all know it can be a bit boring. Iit might just come right off the bat, no pun intended or it might come in the bottom of the ninth. That's usually how it happens in the regular season, and let’s be honest, not many care about regular season baseball. You may ask me why I say this? Why, because a lot of the regular season doesn't mean anything just like a lot of stuff you learn in math class. Let’s face it, how many people will need to use geometry when they graduate? Not that many! People really only care about the playoffs because those games are actually fun, and exciting to watch. Now, I’m going to breakdown the MLB post season 2015-2016.
Now we're not going to go into the wildcard games because they were pretty bad, just like most of the books you read in Language Arts. We're going to talk about the Division Series. Most of these teams you have probably have no idea who they are so we’re going to just talk about the Mets and Dodgers series based off the teams, the story, the excitement so far, and the controversies all ready.
First off, the New York Mets and the Los Angeles Dodger. Game one went to the Mets with an outstanding pitching performance from Jacob Degrom, who had more strikeouts than he has hair. You have to watch the mets to get that joke, so the mets lead the best of five series 1-0. Now on to game two, which was played on Saturday. Mets up 2-1 bottom of seventh, man on first, easy ground ball to the mets shortstop Ruben Tejada. Now this is an easy double play, right or wrong, Chase Utley the base runner bulldozes Tejada with a late slide, causing him not to touch the bag and him flipping on the back of his head and breaking his leg. Utley who was ORIGINALLY called out went back into the dugout, but Dodgers Manager Don Mattingly challenged the play and NOW Utley was called safe, which ended up causing the Dodgers to rally back and score 5 runs and win the game . So the series is tied 1-1. Now if you look at what happened after the game when they show replays and all that stuff, Utley DID NOT touch the bag, either like the kid who complains that no one tagged him in that game of tag. There is even a rule protecting middle infielders from late and dirty slides like this and it doesn't get more clear from this line “ intentionally interfere with a fielder who is attempting to catch a thrown ball or to throw a ball in an attempt to complete any play”( bleacher report). Now, the idiots at MLB took a whole day after the game to give Utley a two game suspension, and you all know this guy is going to appeal the suspension, so if MLB can’t deal with this on Monday, he’s going to play tonight which is idiotic in it’s own mind. So if the Mets lose this serious, which I think won’t happen, but if it does, it’s because another blown call by an official caused them to lose this series, and it would be a huge disappointment for the Mets because they have one of the best stories going into these playoffs. If they don’t win this, it is going to backfire bad on Major League Baseball. So Mets fans are guaranteed to have their fingers crossed for the rest of this series. That is all for today folks.

NFL News: Week 5-6 |
Last week Man. City defeated Newcastle 6-1 and Aguero scored 5 goals which gave him a 88-rated Purple In-form on TOTW. They will be hosting Bournemouth this week. Chelsea lost to Southampton 3-1. They are hosting Aston Villa this week. Real Madrid drawed with Athletico Madrid and will host Levante. Barcelona lost to Sevilla FC 2-1 and are still without Lionel Messi, they will be hosting Rayo Vallecano, will they win? Other news is Messi could go prison for fraud taxes. FC Bayern obliterated Borussia Dortmund 5-1, with Muller and Lewandowski scoring 2 goals each and Gotze scores the last. Bayern will visit Werder and Borussia Dortmund will go to Mainz 05.

Last week the New York Giants beat the 49ers in a last minute 30-27 with TD pass to the tight end Larry Donnell. Eli Manning threw for 441 YDS, 3 TD, and 1 INT. The Giants are now in first place, but that can change at any moment. The Jets had a bye this week. The Jets struggle with the Bills and Patriots. I am super psyched about next week’s games. The Giants visit the Eagles on Monday Night Football and the Jets welcome the Redskins on FOX at 1:00. Another game was one that could contain our Super Bowl teams was when the Bengals came from behind to slide past the Seahawks 27-24. Andy Dalton threw for 331 YDS, 2 TD, and 1 INT.

The Blame Game- The 2015 Seattle Seahawks
At 2-3, Seahawks fans across the country are asking the same question:Why? Or more specifically, who is to blame? That’s where I (Deepak Sathish) come in. I will be properly assigning blame where I feel blame needs to be dealt. Anyway,on with the list.
First on the blame list, THE OFFENSIVE LINE!If the offensive line keeps playing like this,Russell Wilson will have to buy life insurance. Russell Wilson has been running for his life since the Jimmy Graham trade.
That leads us perfectly into 2…JIMMY GRAHAM!He has done next to nothing for this squad. They would be better off with Max Unger (see above). On the flip side, I believe in him. He just needs to get adjusted to the new playbook. If he doesn’t, it won’t be pretty…
Lastly,KAM CHANCELLOR! He wasn’t around for the first two losses. He did make that epic play in Detroit, but 2 losses are greater than 1 win. Kam is STILL TO BLAME (*whacking newspaper on desk*)!
BONUS ROUND! This edition’s BONUS BLAME goes to (*drumroll*) MARSHAWN LYNCH’S HAMSTRING!It sounds trivial, but it is important to this edition. Marshawn missed the last 2 games because of it. The Hawks almost lost the first, and lost the second. So,it is to blame. It's still early in the season, but Seattle needs to fix these concerns and FAST!
