Why We Celebrate Memorial Day
On Monday May 30, Americans celebrate Memorial Day. To students it signifies the end of a school year and the start of a lazy summer. For parents it signifies a vacation planning and barbecuing. But the real purpose of this holiday is to honor and take time to remember all of the men and women who sacrificed their lives for us. Unlike Veterans day where we celebrate all of the veterans who survived, on memorial day we take time to remember all of the fallen soldiers. So this weekend take time to remember all of the men and women who sacrificed their lives for us.

Technology Review: Amazon Echo!
Yes, I know I’m writing about yet ANOTHER Amazon product. But this one is also pretty cool. Retailing for the price of 179.99, the Amazon Echo is pretty much a phone, that looks a lot like a round box. However, this allows you to access everything with just your voice. This product sports over 36,000 Amazon reviews, with an average rating of 4 and a half stars. The product itself uses Amazon’s version of Siri, called Alexa. Personally, I prefer Siri to all the other voice assistants (Google Now, Cortana, etc.) From looking at some Amazon reviews, it looks as if people seem to like the Echo. The Echo can play music, order a pizza, set alarms, and a lot more. You can even turn off and on the lights. Another benefit of getting the Amazon Echo is the semi-exclusive (you can also do this with an Amazon Prime TV) ability to order an Amazon Prime Dot. One downside noticed is that it is like a “Trojan Horse” (according to The Verge.) Despite the fact it is stores everything you say, it is a pretty cool tech gadget, with a few flaws.
Let's Make All Esports Actual Sports
It takes 48 seconds to go this website and sign a petition to make all esports count as an actual sport. That way people who do esports like Super Smash Bros, Tekken, Street Fighter, Destiny can get legal P1 Visas to enter the US. This really is important people make a living off of esports just like regular athletes. But when good players from around the world want to come to a big tournament in US its hard to get in here legally and expensive and have somewhere to live and eat. We can make that stop if you take 48 seconds to do this we can make a change and make all esport athletes to get P1 Visas.
5th Grade Orientation
This Thursday, the 5th graders from three of the elementary schools are coming to Anthony Wayne for an orientation. Next year, they will be joining us as 6th graders and are coming to become familiar with the school so next year they won’t be as confused. They will be split into three groups: One group will go to the library, another will take a tour of the school, while the third will stay in the cafeteria for a discussion. Each student will get a chance to go to every location. At the library, they will be assigned into groups, each with one or two library pages who will take them around the library in stations and explain different bits of the library, such as the check-out station and the library games winner pictures. At the cafeteria, they will be told about the basics of the school, such as what time it starts and ends, and how their schedules will be. Finally, the third group will be split up into groups and go around the school with a middle schooler who was assigned to them. They will visit some classes, and learn how to navigate the school. Hopefully, this will help them and make coming to middle school easier next year.

Amazon Dash Buttons
By Deepak Sathish
Amazon Dash buttons are products for Amazon Prime members, that have been out for a few months. They allow you to order products on Amazon, with the touch of a button. The products you can order range from Doritos to Downy, and everything in between. The buttons cost 4.99. After your first press, you get a 4.99 credit. You literally could make a rainbow out of them (as seen in the picture). The buttons help Amazon and the brands that have Dash buttons capitalize on the human trait of convenience. Also, the buttons increase human impulse spending. People who run out of these items, they will just press the button without caring to check how much the product costs. Even with this, the product is still pretty cool. This product will make life much easier, and will add yet another benefit to being an Amazon Prime member.

All About the Tubman's
Did you hear? Harriet Tubman will be the face of the 20 dollar bill! By the year 2020, the new design will be released to the public. It will be the 100th anniversary of women gaining rights. Andrew Jackson will now be on the back of the bill along with a picture of the White House. Harriet Tubman will be the first woman to be on a bill for more than a century.
Harriet Tubman is known for bringing freedom to over 300 slaves. Once she had escaped from her master, she went back 19 times to the south to help many slaves escape. Tubman used the Underground Railroad. It was a network of secret routes and safe houses used by 19th-century enslaved people of African descent in the United States in efforts to escape to free states (definition from google). Tubman never got caught once with the group because she was very skilled and she always knew what she was doing. Tubman deserves to be on the front of the 20 dollar bill.

Earthquake! |
The Texas Floods |
By Joel Sanchez
This Saturday afternoon, at about 7:00 pm, an earthquake measuring 7.8 on the magnitude scale (extremely powerful) rocked Ecuador, killing about 413 people. The place was completely destroyed. 80% of the buildings had crumbled or were reduced into rubble. The quake was one of the strongest and biggest earthquake to hit ecuador in decades. Many people died from their houses which collapsed on them, and others were lucky enough to escape alive. Lucky and unlucky people made it out alive, or were in their house at the time, but had relatives trapped under the rubble. Search and rescue teams are still searching for victims. |
By Deepak Sathish
On Monday, there was heavy rains that hit Texas. In one community (Hockley), it received 17 inches of rain in just 24 hours. As of 12:30 P.M. ET, 7 people have died. Most of the rain was around the Houston area. In Harris County, over 1,000 homes were flooded. Over 100,000 people lost power in the Houston metro area. Rain totals of 10 to 20 inches were measured in the area northwest of Houston. Some places had 3 to 4 inches of rain an hour. Many schools were closed in and around Houston. The unfortunate part is that there is still plenty more rain to come. Although it will be tough, I’m pretty sure Houston can bounce back from this storm. |

Paralyzed Man Regains Hand Movement
By Sarah Hajjar
Ian Burkhart, a 24 year old paralyzed man, has finally been able to do things that any person could do--with the help of an experimental device. Ian has been able to do this for a few hours every week. The article Brainy move enables man to regain use of hand by Newsela states that “The new device interprets Burkhart brain signals and stimulates his muscles with electrodes on his forearm.“ Soon Burkhart will be able to live a better and independent life.
The device is attached to his skull which carries signals to a computer. The computer records what he is trying to accomplish. The computer will sends commands to Ian's body. This whole process mentally wears him out. Just wait, this device can make many lives much easier in the future.

“Do you trust me?” I asked.
“No,” his answer was sharp, cold. I was not offended by the harshness of it. I liked it.
“Smart man,”a grin crept onto my face. I couldn’t, shouldn't be trusted. Yet some choose to anyway.
Idiots.
I took his hand and we began our trek. His stubby, mangled hand felt cold in mine. I looked at his face. I found the blue-gray tint beautiful. It was like a work of art, a contrast of colors A blue face, red scratches, brown dirt. I was the only one who saw the beauty of it all.
“Where are you taking me?” He sounded panicked. I like it when they are scared. Too naive to know that nothing could hurt him, like a frightened kid.
“Silly child,” the words slithered out of my mouth, exactly how I slithered around, looking for the next person I would take. “You do not trust me. If I were to tell you, you would not believe.”
He had nothing more to say, and neither did I.
We continued on, passing by the dark forests, big splotches of blackness, as if we were walking on an artist’s palette -- the palette of an artist who only likes the color black. As we traveled farther into the forest, he gripped my hand tighter. So tight I believed I would return to the dust.
The more frightened he became, the more joyful was I. Another friend I was getting, another face to float about my lovely home.
“P-P-Please,” he was struggling. I like it when they struggle. “D-Don’t hurt m-me. I have a f-fa-family.”
Had, I thought. You had a family.
He sobbed now. This was always my least favorite part. I like it when they are scared, or even terrified. I like it when they struggle and when they scream. I, however, do not like it when they cry. Crying reminds me of babies, and never would I intentionally bring a baby to my house.
You must wait for them to grow up, I promise myself. And this -- this wailing -- makes me feel like I have broken my promise.
As we neared the entrance to my cavern, I eased his fears, as I always did. “We are almost there,” I’d say. “Just a few more steps. Do not worry, child, soon you will be safe with me and your new friends.”
We had reached the wooden door that lay hidden beneath the grass. As I reached down to open it, I felt the muscles in his hand -- what was left of them -- relax. He knew where he was.
As I opened the door, the gust of air that was hot as a burning furnace welcomed us.
“Before I let you in, I must know,” I began the ritual question, the one that struck fear into them. I didn’t mean to scare them, but just needed to know where to house them. “How did you die?”
This man, however, was different. He answered me with confidence.
“Well, my name is Thomas Smith and I died of asphyxiation. I was buried alive.”
“Well, Thomas, my name is Death and you will soon meet the man that killed you.” I welcomed him in and he smirked, knowing very well why he was there. Not only how he died, but how he came to The Underworld instead of living in Heaven. I left him standing there, dumbfounded, as I went out to find yet another -- friend, let’s say.
“Do you trust me?” I asked again, not for the first time, and definitely not for the last.

Are Cats Trying to Tell Us Something?
Have you ever wondered if you could communicate with your cat? You might think I’m crazy, but it could be possible. Researcher Suzanne Schötz, a fellow cat lover, performed an experiment to test this theory. To do this, you must record the melodies in the in the cat’s vocalization to see if there are any types of patterns. She then exposes the cats to human speech to see how they react, but here’s a question: HOW can they communicate with us, humans? As stated in a National Geographic article, “People seem to use a similar speaking style when they talk to cats and when they talk to small children.” When cats “meow”, they use similar melodies to human speech. If you listen carefully, you might hear this. Do you believe that your cat could communicate with you?

Comet Passes by Earth
By Marko Wojcickyj
This past week was an exciting one for astronomy fans. That's because two comets were scheduled to make their closest approach to Earth, back to back. The icy heavenly bodies did not disappoint.
252 aka LINEAR was the first to zip past Earth on Monday, March 21. At its closest, the comet which is the bigger of the two came within 3.5 million miles or about 14 times the distance from the Earth to the Moon. This made it the fifth closest comet encounter in recorded history. According to AccuWeather Meteorologist, Dave Samuhel, LINEAR was almost visible to the unaided eye in the Southern Hemisphere.

An Astronaut Uses Hololens to Fight Off Virtual Aliens. |
Scott Kelly: First American to Spend a Year in Space |
By Adam Tsay
NASA astronaut Scott Kelly aboard the International Space Station likes to spend some quality time fighting aliens, well in virtual reality at least. In his recent 340 day mission to find out the effects on the human body in zero gravity, Scott used the MIcrosoft Hololens to use and enjoy. At a press conference yesterday, the astronaut said: "It worked great. I was really surprised. We messed around with it for, like, two hours, and immediately, I sensed — this is a capability we could use right now." As you would know from my previous article, The Hololens is a device that displays holograms which you can interact with. Using it in a regular environment like your room is cool enough, but in zero gravity must be a whole new level of awesome. The device can be useful for making it easy for working on the ISS, but that dosen’t mean they didn’t use it for playing games like RoboRaid (a Hololens compatible game). Things like this make the future, today! Viking Crystal "Sunstones" |

Astronaut Scott Joseph Kelly is an astronaut from America, he’s an engineer, and a retired Navy Captain. This week, the astronaut who had been in space for one year, returned back to space. Astronaut Scott Kelly was born February 21, 1964 (age 52), Orange, NJ. His wife, Leslie S. Yandell, was so proud and content that he had returned safely. Him and his partner have been known to usually come out smiling proud at themselves. Scott is an honored man known to change American history forever. Apollo 10's Mission Heard Eerie RecordingsBy Marko Wojcickyj
“On May, 1969, NASA astronaut Thomas Stafford, John Young, and Eugene Cernan blasted off from Cape Canaveral aboard the Apollo 10 lunar module, the fourth manned mission in the US Apollo Space program and only the second after Apollo 8 to orbit the moon.”(From Dogo News.com) Its mission was to circle around the moon and test the components and procedures for the first lunar landing. The mission went flawlessly without an incident. However, in the years that followed NASA posted a recording of the mission. In the background there were weird noises. Some of the astronauts said it sounded like space music. Weird isn’t it. The astronauts experienced the eerie whistling sounds for almost an hour when the shuttle was on the far side of the moon and therefore, out of radio range from NASA's mission control. |

Recently, archeologists have discovered what appears to be some sort of Viking navigational device, called a ¨sunstone¨ The Vikings used the interaction of sunlight with certain types of crystals to create something that would be a navigational aid even during cloudy days, since ancient sailors couldn't have accurate readings without magnetic compasses. Some of the crystals that they could have used are calcite, tourmaline, and cordierite. Calcite works the best during cloudy days, but all of the crystals still don't have 100% accurate readings. Now, the only way to prove this would be if a Viking ship would be found with a sunstone on it. This, however, may take some time. |
Roman Sword Discovered off Oak IslandBy Sakshi Lende
Recently, archeologists have discovered a Roman sword off Oak Island, which leads to the idea that Romans were the ones who discovered America, long before anyone else. A Roman shipwreck was found in the waters by Oak Island, and in it was the well preserved Roman sword. Interestingly, the sword has magnetic properties, causing it to point north, so it may have also been used as a navigational device. It is assumed to be one of a rare set of votive swords. The sword hilt portrays a statuette holding a club overhead, as if ready to destroy something, maybe to show how the owner of the sword destroyed one who dared to question his actions. |
Super Tuesday Primary: 12 States Vote
By Deepak Sathish
Today is a crucial day in the presidential race. Super Tuesday. Multiple primaries and caucuses. The states that will hold primaries/caucuses today are Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Vermont and Virginia (for both parties), Alaska for the Republicans, Colorado for the Democrats, and Democrats in American Samoa will have a nominating contest. 661 Republican delegates, and 865 Democratic delegates. That is what is on the line. This could decide the nominees for who fights for each party in November. Republican candidates John Kasich and Ben Carson’s days are numbered and this is probably it for both of them. Meanwhile, if Hillary Clinton can take a lead over Bernie Sanders, she could possibly pull away from Sanders later in March. Donald Trump could be unstoppable if Ben Carson and John Kasich don’t drop out. If Carson and Kasich finally do, this could help Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz catch up to the unstoppable Trump. Today could decide who leads the Executive branch in a few months.

Where is the Fair Use Online?
By Adam Tsay
There is a new trending hashtag that has been talked about by Youtubers like Boogie2988, I Hate Everything, and Nostalgia Critic which is #WTFU. WTFU stands for Where’s The Fair Use, an angry protest against Youtube’s broken Copyright system that is being abused by big companies to bully content creators. What is the issue? Let’s explain in detail on what the big problem is with the Copyright System on YouTube. These content creators on Youtube have dealt with a big copyright problem against big Hollywood companies. They’ve had their videos taken down, had their monetization stopped, even I Hate Everything had his channel temporarily deleted because of false copyright claims when they clearly had Fair Use! Big companies file a copyright strike against a channel which limits what they can create. Too many strikes can result in your channel to be terminated, so you can see why content creators are worried about this issue. When you get a video striked, all the money you make off the video goes to the big companies, making you lose that even if it is a false claim. What’s worse, when these big companies are wrong about the copyright strike, there is no penalty! Now why should you care? This problem doesn't just affect big Youtubers, this can affect anyone trying to make videos. There is a case of a home video getting struck down by Universal because of a song barely heard in the background! There is a big problem with the Youtube copyright system that it needs to be fixed soon or else the corporations will take over our rights to express fair use when it is fair use. #WTFU

Cool Technologies Out Now!!!
By Adam Tsay
1. 3D Printers.
3D Printers have been out for a while, but they are really cool in their possibilities! If you don’t know what a 3D Printer is, it is a device that can be used to create 3D objects using a computer file and has been used to create many things like cups, toys, working guns, instruments, replicas of items, and many other items. It is amazing what you can do with one and despite its expensive price tag it can save you money over time as instead of buying the product you can just print it! Though more detailed and bigger objects can only be printed by professionals, simple things are still easy to print as long as you have a few hours to wait for it to be done.
2. Drones
Move over remote control planes and helicopters, the new drones are here and they are swarming the sky! A drone is a flying aircraft that is not controlled on board but rather controlled by a remote control or a computer. These things are getting really popular and for a few hundred dollars you can get your own official drone! Though there are some controversy on a drone’s ability to spy and attack people with weapons, these are really amazing devices that can change aerodynamics.
3.Hoverboard
Now hold your horses for a second, not THAT kind of hoverboard. Sorry, but our technology isn’t advanced to that level of levitation. In the meantime, you can throw out you scooters and bikes and hop onto a different type of hoverboard! The hoverboard (also known as a segway hoverboard), is a new way of transportation that is trending fast. It consists of a rectangular platform with a wheel on each side that is battery powered and only moves if the user leans forward, backward, and in circles. You can get one now for a good price of around $180-$300
4. Oculus Rift
We need to bring some gaming in this article, so a cool new device called the Oculus Rift might just revolutionize the gaming industry! For those who don’t know, the Oculus Rift is a head mounted virtual reality device that is going to be primarily used for gaming but also can be used for watching VR movies or spending your time with your friends in VR. The creators of this VR device claim that it’ll make you feel like you are really there and many people agree with it! Other companies are now seeing the popularity of the Rift like Samsung, Sony, Microsoft, Razer, and even Google! Though, this doesn't come at a cheap price considering they are asking you to pay $600 for one.
5. Microsoft HoloLens
Speaking of Virtual Reality, Microsoft might be making one of the greatest and awesome products to soon be out yet! The HoloLens, like a the Oculus Rift, is a virtual reality headset but also uses HoloLens and has MANY more uses than the Oculus Rift. Unlike just Virtual Reality, the wearer also sees holograms and even interact with them! It can be used to play Minecraft on your table, to have a Skype call to anyone and anywhere in the house, watching the football game on a wall and making it even bigger than your TV, being in Mars in your own living room, educating the class by seeing holographic models of the human body, and many other possibilities for both business, school, and entertainment! Microsoft is looking to release it in 2016 but you might not be able to afford it since it costs $3,000.

Happy Year of the Monkey
By Joel Sanchez
Happy Chinese New Year! On Monday February 8, 2016, the year of the monkey swung by in China. It was a huge Chinese celebration. There fireworks, dumplings, moon cakes, you name it. It was surely a big thing to the Chinese. If you don’t believe me, just go ask the 8 million people that celebrated. To the chinese it marks the beginning of the year 4714. We hope the Chinese enjoy their New Year.

12 Kinds of Rainbows
By Marko Wojcickyj
We all remember ROYGBIV (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet). Well guess what? There are 12 kinds of rainbows. Guess that those colors don’t apply anymore in that order. You could forget that order because all rainbows aren’t equal. The vary drastically depending the conditions they occur in. As you probably know, for a rainbow to form there has to be sunlight and rain. As the white rays of the sun meet the raindrops, they bend, a event we call refraction. But since the seven colors that make up white light have different wavelengths, they bend at different rates and distribute, resulting in a rainbow.

The Blizzard of 2016!
Over the weekend, New Jersey had a major snowstorm. Schools even had a snow day on Monday because of all the snow. Roads were closed and you couldn’t even walk out to your own car if you even wanted to. In NYC, the mayor had prohibited from any person driving on the roads for the sake of their safety. If anyone had driven on the road, they would receive a ticket or have to pay a fine. People got stuck on roads for hours due to the storm. Others were stuck indoors at home all day. What did YOU do during the storm?

Did you enjoy the winter Blizzard? I have not seen snow so deep in a long time! The snow was about 18 inches deep. The drifts were 25 inches high. It snowed all day Saturday. I did so much shoveling, I made a snowman. After shoveling and playing in the snow, I had hot chocolate. I also made chocolate chip cookies with my mom! It was a snowy weekend to enjoy having hot chocolate. |
The Science Behind Crying
By Tina Tran
Why do we cry? Scientists have worked hard to answer this question. Vingerhoets is a professor of psychology at Tilburg University, in the Netherlands. He is one of the few scientists in the world who has studied crying. According to Vingerhoets, there are three types of tears. The first type is the basal tears, they act as a barrier between the eye and the rest of the world. Next are reflex tears. They wash your eyes clean when something gets in them. Finally, there are emotional tears. “These are released in response to emotional states,” explains Vingerhoets. “Especially when we feel helplessness.” It is to believe that how crying had something to do with the way humans learned to developed and depend on each other. Another reason we weep is that humans have the longest developmental period of almost any animal. It takes a long time to grow up. The major advantage of tears is that you can target them at a specific person. Vingerhoets says this ability to target someone could have come in handy in prehistoric times, when humans were living among dangerous animals. Loud, vocal crying could attract predators. Tears were a safer way to get attention. Apparently, we are all crybabies.

Extinction of the White Rhino?
By Joseph Yonga
In the picture above that is Nola the 4th last Northern White Rhino as seen on . She died in November 22, 2015 at the San Diego Zoo. There is a twitter hashtag #Nola4Ever. There are now only 3 Northern White Rhinos left in the world. All of them live in the Ol Pejeta Conservancy in Kenya.
There are two female rhinos Fatu and Najin but both are unable to naturally reproduce and the male rhino named Sudan has a low sperm count but the conservancy still thinks they can produce another rhino. There used to be 4 in Kenya but one of them named Suni died in October 2014. Not long ago the San Diego Zoo set aside $2 million to save the last three rhinos.
There are very limited rhinos because they were killed by poaching, someone who kills animals illegally. The last Northern White Rhino in the wild was killed in 2006. They’re horns are valuable and used in traditional Asian medicine. Poaching usually happens in Africa. Other animals that poached are pythons, sea cucumbers, and pangolins. Now countries in Africa and other nations have guards to protect the animals.

Facebook Owner Donates Money
The owner and founder of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg, has decided to donate 45 billion dollars. This money will go for the cause of helping children learn and stay healthy. They decided to give to children’s education because they "grew up in classrooms where we all learned the same things." They realized that students need to learn at different paces, and are willing to help the cause. Priscilla Chan, Mark Zuckerberg’s wife, is interested in healthcare, being a children’s doctor. This may have persuaded their decision to donate to healthcare. This whole idea is happening because they decided to join the Giving Pledge. The Giving Pledge is when world billionaires volunteer to donate most of their money. What these people are doing will hopefully continue, helping more people who are in need.

Two Major Planetary Discoveries
Astronomers have discovered two planetary discoveries that might be the biggest breakthrough in search of alien life. “The two finds, one planet at the edge of our solar system and one just beyond, have both been hailed as major scientific advances.” CNN says. On the edge of our solar system, there is a planet that has been just about the size of Earth. It is called GJ 1132b. It has the potential of finding life there.
"GJ 1132b is arguably the most important planet ever found outside the solar system," Drake Deming said in a letter. It was found moving across a red dwarf star. The astronomers haven't found any other discovery that was closest to this. The known boundaries of the solar system have been expanded to the dwarf planet. The other discovery was also another planet at the edge of the solar system. It is icy apparently. It also confirms that the solar system is far more complicated than we think. A question the astronomers want to find out is, what is the boundary of our solar system? To find out more about the discoveries go to http://www.cnn.com/2015/11/12/world/solar-system-discoveries-earth/index.html

On November eleventh, Anthony Wayne held an assembly to honor the nation's veterans. A few volunteers from the newspaper club interviewed the veterans to find out about their service, sacrifice, and lives during and after the war.
Tina: What inspired you to join the army?
Answer: “Why did I join the army? I joined the army because I wanted to serve my country. Actually, one of my good friends and I thought it would be a good idea to sign up together. So we went ahead and signed up together, and it was that same reason that we wanted to serve our country, and it’s something we always wished to do and we loved history, military history so we wanted to be part of history, I guess.”
Tina: “What branch did you serve?”
Answer: “I was in the army national guard.
Tina: “How did you feel when you entered your service?”
Answer: “It was a good day. It was...I was nervous at first because I was the unknown. I didn’t really know what to expect, but I knew I wanted to be there and I was happy to be there, so…
Tina: Why did you make the choice?
Answer: “Mainly to service my country. That was the big reason.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sakshi: Prior to joining the military, did you have or future plan?
Answer: “Before joining the military, now I didn’t. I was just fresh out of high school, and the Gulf War had just started, the first one, so I joined the military to serve.”
Sakshi: Did you have a new job after you retired?
Answer: “Yeah. Law enforcement. Policeman, police officer.”
Sakshi: What countries did you serve in?
Answer: “I served in Korea, Afghanistan, I’ve been to Kyrgyzstan, and...that’s pretty much it. I’ve been to Japan too, but I didn’t serve.”
Sakshi: what did you do your in free time?
Answer: “I tried to relax, kept checking with family, and friends. We got care packages and sometimes they have movies in them, so we could watch a movie or something.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Miriam: What branch did you serve in?
Answer: “I served in Air Force.”
Miriam: Was it your choice or a draft?
Answer: It was my choice. I wanted to be a policeman, so I joined the military to become a policeman. And it worked!
Miriam: Did you have a job prior?
Answer: No.
Sakshi: Can you share a memorable experience in the military?
Answer: How ‘bout the Jeep? The Jeep is good enough. We had a Jeep that which the First Lieutenant, decided he wanted, but In the meantime we had a flat tire, and being new in the country, I stopped at a Neso Station, to get the tire fixed. And little did I know that it doesn’t work in foreign countries. So the tire, it went missing, and the lieutenant took the Jeep and he got in trouble for not having the tire, and I got out of trouble.
Miriam: What branch did you serve in?
Answer: The Army.
Sakshi: Did you have a job prior to joining the army?
Answer: Yeah, I worked in cabinetry.
Miriam: Did you have a job after [serving the army]?
Answer: I had a couple jobs after. I was a plant manager in a place, after I got back, for twenty four years, and for the last twenty years I worked for CableVision.
Sakshi: Was it your choice or was it a draft?
Answer: When I got in the military I was drafted, I was one of the last ones drafted before they changed the policy
Sakshi: How did you feel when you entered?
Answer: Apprehensive, to say the least.
Tina: What inspired you to join the army?

On the evening of November 13, 2015, there was a series of terrorist attacks that occurred in Paris, and left 129 dead, and at least 350 were injured. The attack was marked the most violence in Paris since World War II. It was a peaceful day for the Parisians before the attack happened. Some were cheering at the match between France and Germany, some were dining at restaurants, and some were at the Bataclan. Wherever they were, they were all enjoying themselves until the explosions and gunshots broke out and broke the tranquility of their area that disrupted their peace and changed their lives. The terrorist group known as the Islamic State, also called ISIS, were responsible for the attacks. After the attacks, large crowds gathered to mourn and honour the victims. World leaders vowed to form alliances and get rid of ISIS, once and for all.
The iPhone 7: Too Soon News
By Sarah Hajjar
The iPhone 6 came out on September 9, 2015 but everyone is already excited for the iPhone 7. It will probably come out on Tuesday September 6, 2016 or September 13, 2016.
A possibility is that Apple is trying to find a way to make waterproof phones. They would coat the phones with protective waterproof material that would prevent the water from damaging to the phone. The phone will also feature a sidewall display which will allow you to give access to slide-to-unlock functionality, music player controls, messaging readout, called ID, system controls and more.
The touch ID could also possibly be built into the entire system eliminating the need for a home button. This will make room for a larger display. So everybody get ready for next year when the iPhone 7 comes out!

Scientists Discovered a Human-Like Species in South Africa
Scientists have discovered a human-like species in South-Africa which seems to be modern human’s ancestors. They have 15 partial skeletons. They named the species naledi. Professor Stringer of the Natural History Museum said naledi was “a very important important discovery” .
"What we are seeing is more and more species of creatures that suggests that nature was experimenting with how to evolve humans, thus giving rise to several different types of human-like creatures originating in parallel in different parts of Africa. Only one line eventually survived to give rise to us," he told BBC News.

WATTPAD: Changing the Way Writers Write
Love to write? Check out Wattpad, a place for writers of all ages to publish their stories and share them with readers all around the world. Founded in 2006 by Allen Lau and Ivan Yuen,Wattpad is becoming more and more popular. On Wattpad, people can vote and comment on your stories to show the author how much you really like the books. Many well known authors have started writing here and have become famous through their works and others are Wattpad featured authors whose books were so popular that they were sent to a publisher and published as actual books. Sarah Perlmutter, author of the YA novel “The Blast”, started writing her story on Wattpad, but a publisher thought it was good, and now she is a real author and actually sells her books. You can also follow other Wattpaders and make new friends! That may sound cheesy, but it’s true! There are also contests to encourage writers. There is an annual writing contest called the Wattys which is for all members and accepts all categories. The winners get shoutouts by the Wattpad crew and other items such as Wattpad T-Shirts and water bottles. Other contests are for specific age groups or have a certain topic you have to write about. However, the Wattpad crew is not the only ones who make contests. Anyone can do it; all you have to do is make a new story, and in it explain the rules.
Wattpad makes it very simple to find books that are just right.To make it easier to find books with a certain theme in common, you can tag them. Tags categorize the story and help other readers to find the perfect story. For example, if you are writing a Percy Jackson fanfiction, then you can tag your story “PercyJackson”, “Fanfiction”, “GreekMythology”, or anything else that describes your story. Then, other Wattpaders that want to read a Percy Jackson fanfiction can search, “#PercyJackson, #Fanfiction, #GreekMythology, or anything else that the story they want should have. You can add/search as many tags as you want ; it depends on readers who want their search to be more narrowed down than others. Another great quality about Wattpad is that whenever someone creates a new story, the author has to write a description about their story, and rate it Mature, for older readers, or Not Mature, for younger readers middle school age.
Last but not least, Wattpad gives you many opportunities to become popular. For newer readers, there are times when Wattpaders that have joined for 3 or less months get to post their stories in a certain place where others can easily get to them, because when there are some great writers, but they are not always known. But this promotes a writer, and just participating makes you gain reads. There are other contests for other writers, and the winners get promoted too. Sometimes, if a writer really likes another writer’s story, he/she can give a shoutout on their profile to the writer. That way, people who are following the second writer can go check out the first writer and read his/her story. Wattpad also has special books where Wattpaders can comment what their favorite books are, and then other people who also comment can see recommendations. Occasionally, writers have cover contests to see if anyone can make them a good cover, and the winner gets promoted by the author of the story.
